The building next to my office does emissions testing and some other stuff for preproduction cars. Saw this pulling out and snagged some spy shots. Anybody know what this thing is?

Looks like a Fiat Strada. It’s sold in Mexico, based on my 5 second research.

As Jaxsterlli said it’s a Strada, had no idea you could get them in the US though. Cool little cars indeed, but they suffer from the typical Italian reputation though..

Its not going to be sold in the U.S. but Ram is a getting a rebadged version of it. Ram 700.

You can’t. Any of them in the US are manufacturer vehicles and are probably testing.

Well why the hell not. Damn these automakers and their refusal to offer the US market a legitimate SMALL pickup.

Ahh, well that makes this spotting even more awesome then. :)

As bigblock said, they aren’t available in the US. I see a bunch of weird foreign stuff at this building, mostly FCA, for testing purposes. My eyes almost popped out of my head when I saw a Giulietta hanging out there once.

If they brought that single cab Strada here as a Fiat or a Ram, I’d be at the dealership tomorrow to get one.

“Refusal” is a strong word. There’d be less then 10 people from oppo who would think about buying one … and like 8 other people in the U.S.

You think? Most car people I’ve talked to (granted a very small cross-section) think a small pickup is a good idea.
I think the biggest reason to have one isn't even for the consumer, but for the automakers themselves. We all know that CAFE standards are rising. As a result, the trucks have to become more and more efficient. You can only ring so much efficiency out of an engine, and whether your using aluminum for the body or not, it's still not going to get you far enough. Now if this same automaker were to offer a smaller truck, they would boost their CAFE numbers. They wouldn't necessarily have to spend so much R&D dollars on squeezing out every single drop of efficiency they could, as the smaller trucks would make up for the larger trucks deficiency.

Thing is they’re not going to run out of R&D dollars for pickups anytime soon.

Granted they’ll all have to come up with something by 2025 … but I doubt selling the Ram 700 here is the answer.

Wow, there’s actually two other people that would? That seems like a high estimate.

I knew the F series was a cash cow, but had no idea. They essentially make the cost of a Nissan Versa on every truck they sell. Yeah, I guess you’re right. There’s no chance of running out of R&D money anytime soon.
Damnit, you shot down my argument for a small pickup truck. Now I'm sad. :(

Yeah definitely a good mix. Our building is also right by Equus Automotive so we see that thing driving around from time to time as well.

Word on the street is we’re not even getting the Ram version. So sad that I’ll have to buy that Hyundai trucklet instead. Why do you do this to a loyal customer, FCA? :(
